January 30th, 2010

Our infinitely talented and generous composer Alex Kovacs (whose personal site can be found here) has graciously put together another amazing track for our trailer. As always, he totally nailed it and really notched up the suspense.

The Internet Movie Database has been slimed

September 18th, 2009

SlimedIMDBSlimed is legit now – on IMDB just like it’s a real movie (It is a real movie, we promise). A search of “Slimed” in their search engine still lists Ghostbusters 2 as the top hit which is truly disappointing. That movie totally ripped us off. We did the killer toxic slime wave first and with more gusto than they ever had.

Next time, we hire a sound engineer.

September 14th, 2009

Milli_Vanilli_Slimed2So we were getting everything prepped for a DVD release, watching the latest export at the Austin Film Studio projection room and we suddenly saw something that probably should have been obvious to us at a much earlier date… like at any point in the past year of fine-tuning.

Making DV look 16mm

September 2nd, 2009

Just aged the lab test scene – gave it the old creepy 16mm flicker look with some dirt, grain and scratches as if it’s been poorly stored in the Cleano basements since the 60’s and forgotten until the mid-90s, when it was rescanned and output to VHS by Walgreens technicians for the viewing pleasure of a particularly sadistic human scientist. We also gave it a nice blue/green tint to keep it in the same color scheme of the lab.

Below is a before and after image of Jeff’’s scene – note the lightning bolt transition, this is how it actually looks when you apply these kind of filters in After Effects.

First post – an introduction to Slimed

July 17th, 2009

Welcome everyone and anyone to the website for Slimed, a labor of love for myself and co-writer/director Jeff Nitzberg over the last 2 years. The movie is very close to being finished, and we wanted to set-up this blog as a kind of open guide and discussion on what it’s like producing, promoting and distributing a low-budget film as well as a place for us to update everyone on festivals, dvd and poster releases and the like.

I wish we could have set this up earlier during the post-production period as I would have also loved sharing the trial and errors we went through doing special effects, compositing and sound design, but as it is with making a self-funded film – things don’t often go as planned.
